Acts Together - Broken Bread | Unified People

TODAY'S MESSAGE

We live in the digital age. Physical communities have given way to online ones. So what makes the church unique? Why should a person get up on a Sunday, get ready, drive to a location and gather in person with others? What's the point when you can hear great sermons online and listen to all your favorite worship songs on your phone? In this teaching series, we'll explore and discover the irreplaceable, life-giving, transformative power of the church when we return to our roots and live on mission together.

The Lord added numbers to the believers and the community of believers gladly and generously welcomed these new people to their table.

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE

Acts 2.42-47

42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. 46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

DOING THE CHRISTIAN LIFE ALONE IS NOT JUST DIFFICULT...

... IT'S IMPOSSIBLE!

We are designed for community. Therefore, it would be wise to learn how to live and grow in friendship and community. LifeGroups are small groups (usually 8-14) that intentionally do life together. LifeGroups discover spiritual growth, learn, face challenges, and have fun together by creating an environment where relationships can flourish. LifeGroups meet weekly and most follow the weekly Resource Guide. Our goal is for Lifegroups to grow in their trust in God and one another so that meaningful community can develop.

You can join a LifeGroup any time. You can stop by the Welcome Table on a Sunday morning to sign up or you can click here if you are interested in signing up for a group.

BOOKS/AUDIBLE BOOK

Life Together: Dietrich Bonhoeffer's classic account of life in the illegal seminary of the Confessing Church in Finkenwalde during the rise of Naziism. A classic, powerful, profound consideration of Christian fellowship.

Open to the Spirit: Who exactly is the Holy Spirit? What does he do in our lives? How can we know him more deeply, and is it possible to tap into his power? Should we pray to the Holy Spirit? Is it possible to be aware of his promptings and speaking into our lives? Dr. Scot McKnight answers these questions and more in this comprehensive examination of what the Bible says about this divinely important, but often confusing member of the Trinity.

SERIES RESOURCES
The Message of Acts by John Stott. The Spirit moves the church into the world. That is how it has always been since the day of Pentecost when the Spirit brought thousands from many countries into the body of Christ. Stott writes, "The Acts of the Apostles have long ago finished; the acts of the followers of Jesus will continue until the end of the world."
